Wrapping up National Preparedness Month

In honor of National Preparedness Month running in September, PHQIX wanted to highlight QI efforts in emergency preparedness that have been published on our website. Please read, learn, and comment on the following informative initiatives:

Improvement of Employee Drill Response in Public Health Emergency Response Program – Kane County Health Department
Prepare for Pandemic Influenza: Applying Quality Improvement Principles to Emergency Preparedness – Genesee County Health Department
Office of Epidemiology and Environmental Health Division Align Priorities – leading to a 50% reduction of time – Toledo-Lucas County Health Department

We applaud and thank these and all efforts that use the quality improvement process to improve and protect the public’s health.

Featured Submission from the Connecticut Department of Public Health

Why we love this submission: Meeting federal standards for databases of sociodemographic data is very difficult for health departments. This initiative has many examples of tools that can assist others who are interested in making their databases compliant through either paper or electronic changes.

Twitter Chat: QI and Accreditation

September's #QITogether TwitterChat was held on Tuesday, September 10, and was be co-hosted with a past PHQIX submitter and now accredited health department, Central Michigan District Health Department, to discuss QI and Accreditation: Process, Growth and Take-Aways. Grace Gorenflo, MPH, RN, a QI expert, also joined the discussion.

You can see the whole conversation by searching for #QITogether on Twitter!

And the Winner is...

Congratulations to Muntu Davis of the Alameda County Public Health Department! Muntu won an iPod Nano for participating in the August drawing. Thanks to everyone who posted comments on the site to participate in the drawing!

Social Media and Communication

The current Featured QI Initiative - Using Quality Improvement to Increase Community Connections Through Digital Communications - is a great resource for  health departments that are interested in using social media and improving their communication efforts. This initiative demonstrates why it is important to know how a community feels about a communication resource before making any changes or updates to services.

New Addition - Agency QI Plans!

When PHQIX was initially launched, PHQIX users commented on our Community Forum that it might be helpful to have a place on PHQIX to upload agency QI Plans. To accommodate this need, we’ve also now added a section to the site for Agency QI Plans, under the ‘Browse’ tab. Check it out!
