APHA 2016's Call for Abstracts!

Tuesday, January 12, 2016 - Excited to share your quality improvement work or research with others in the public health field? Don’t forget to submit your abstract for APHA’s Annual Meeting & Expo, taking place October 29th through November 2nd, 2016 in Denver, CO! The theme of the meeting is “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Ensuring the Right to Health.” Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts on the theme and current and emerging public health issues. Abstracts are due between Feb. 22-26, depending on the topic. Presenters will be notified of abstract status on June 1, 2016. Click here to learn more about APHA’s 2016 Annual Meeting & Expo!

New QI Video Highlights Tooele County, UT!

Tuesday, December 15, 2015 - Staff at Tooele County Health Department (TCHD) in Utah recognized the need to improve tobacco compliance check pass rates. To address this need TCHD developed a formal protocol for conducting compliance checks, explained the importance of the permit and the consequences of not having a current permit, and created and initiated an online tobacco handler course and exam in English and Spanish. Deadline Approaching for QI Innovator Award Nominations!

Thursday, December 3, 2015 - The deadline for QI Innovator Award nominations is quickly approaching! Peer nominations will be accepted until December 18, 2015 and can be found here or under the Community tab on the PHQIX website.The QI Innovator Award honors QI practitioners and recognizes their hard work in championing a QI effort and culture. Winners will receive a special feature story on the PHQIX website and in the QualityMatters newsletter, a commemorative plaque, and a letter of recognition and appreciation.  Follow this link to read up on previous winners and take this opportunity to honor a QI Innovator who inspires you!

NACCHO Annual 2016 Theme and Session Tracks Announced!

Wednesday, November 18, 2015 - The NACCHO Annual Conference Workgroup seeks sharing session abstracts for the 2016 NACCHO Annual Conference, July 19–21 in Phoenix. The conference theme is "Cultivating a Culture of Health Equity."

NACCHO's Annual Conference Committee welcomes abstract submissions addressing all aspects of public health, including public health practice, infrastructure, and foundational capabilities, relevant to the conference theme. The committee developed this year's conference tracks based on the CDC's 10 Essential Public Health Services. Wednesday, November 4, 2015 - Join us for an upcoming webinar on implementing successful quality improvement (QI) featuring the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). Matt Gilman, an Improvement and Planning Analyst, will present an overview of OHA’s QI initiative to improve the process used for mail-ordered vital records requests and share key lessons learned. OHA conducted a Kaizen event which resulted in significantly decreased processing time, decreased overtime needed to manage backlogged requests, and increased awareness among staff of QI tools and coaching available as needed. Click here to register for this free webinar today!
