Expect the Unexpected: Increasing Familiarity with the KCHD Emergency Operations Plan

After conducting an initial survey (attached) regarding general information contained in the EOP, OCHR staff chose to focus the training on two sections of the EOP: the Base Plan and the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) Plan. These specific plans were chosen because they represent broad-base knowledge of the EOP. A pre-test for each plan was created in SurveyMonkey and sent to KCHD staff. Staff from all divisions and sections received the survey (about 50 staff total). They had 2 weeks to complete the pre-test. Training modules were then developed in SlideRocket and included specific subjects inquired about in the pre-test. SlideRocket was chosen so staff could complete the modules at their convenience. On average, the training took about 20 minutes per module for staff to complete. Staff were again given 2 weeks to complete the modules and post-test, which was embedded at the end of the training. The response rate on the pre-test and post-test was about 25 staff, or 50%. (For more details, please see attached storyboard.)

The QI initiative's impact will be measured by averaging the correct number of responses from pre-test to post-test. The initial aim statement improvement (40%) was chosen because if achieved, it would indicate a score of at least 75% on both tests, which the team felt was acceptable.
