Expect the Unexpected: Increasing Familiarity with the KCHD Emergency Operations Plan

Summary

Impact Statement:
Kane County Health Department (KCHD) in Illinois increased staff knowledge of the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), which improved timely response to emergencies and protection of county residents.
Summary:

The goal of this programmatic project was to increase KCHD staff members' familiarity with the EOP. The Office of Community Health Resources (OCHR) team developed and distributed an initial test to determine the current level of staff familiarity with the EOP (pre-test). Based on the pre-test results, staff developed an aim statement to increase staff knowledge of the EOP by 40% by December 2017. Using SlideRocket, the OCHR team developed training modules and allowed staff 2 weeks to complete the trainings. Afterward, another test was given to determine the level of staff familiarity with the EOP after the trainings (post-test). The average post-test score indicated an improvement that exceeded the initial goals of the aim statement, therefore successfully increasing staff familiarity with the EOP.
