Help with selecting a Lean Six Sigma Training Program?

Thu, 06/18/2015 - 12:04 -- djlankford

I am looking to complete the training courses for the LSS Green Belt, Black Belt, and Master Black Belt.  Once this training has been completed, I will be turning around and developing a training curriculum for the staff within my organization.  Because no current system of standardization/accreditation exists for these programs, I am having a difficult time selecting a training vendor.  Could anyone provide any information on an LSS training provider based on their experiences (positive or negative)?  I have read through many comments on internet forums, but I would like to hear from those specifically in the public health arena.  Thank you

I'd appreciate recommendations for this too. I'd like to develop training for our staff and be certified for contract work when I retire. Thank you!

I can't tell what part of the country you're in, but on the West Coast our county (Shasta) hired Ventura County to train Green Belts. Ventura County is Accredited and has a robust CQI Plan that is not just used by Public Health, but countywide.  When our county decided to implement Lean Six Sigma, we originally sent two people to be trained by Ventura as Green Belts.  Those two then trained an additioanl 15 staff in Green Belt curriculum which then became our original CQI Practitioners Council.  We now conduct annual Green Belt training and semi-annual Champion trainings.  Currently we are working on developing online training for all staff to continue learning about CQI methods and LSS tools.   Please note however that the trainings we provide staff are internal and do not result in a person being a certifed LSS practitioner.

Anna,

I haven't considered searching locally to see what is available for classsroom instruction rather than online training, but that is a good idea.  The annual and semi-annual trainings are something we will look into as well in order to ensure consistent exposure to the CQI methods and LSS tools.  While I understand that the training is internal in nature, from the research I have done it seems there is no standardized certificate out there that determines whether one is "officially" certified.  That being said, do you guys create internal certificates that are distributed to staff who complete the training?  I'm wondering if that would incentive staff any more than the opportunity to learn the concepts and add it to their resumes.  Thank you for your response!

In Ohio we have the LEANOhio Office.  The may be a valuable resource for you to reach out to see if they can help you or possibly recommend.  I have included the link, then search LEANOhio.  Hope this helps!

I would start with the American Society for Quality for certifications. They are one of the most reputable organizations in the quality arena. You can't go wrong with getting a certification from ASQ. They also have a comprehensive Body of Knowledge on Greem Belt Certification and LSS training oriented towards multiple industries. A brochure can be found at Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Brochure.

Good luck!
